Whence Hutton Vale»
Samuel Smith migrated from Dorset England to Angaston in the colony of South Australia circa 1847, he took up work as a gardener with George Fife Angas, the virtual founder of the colony. In 1849, Smith bought thirty acres and planted vines by moonlight, the first ever vintages of Yalumba. One of his most enduring legacies were some unique clones of Shiraz, which were ultimately sown to the illustrious Mount Edelstone vineyard in 1912. Angas's great grandchild Ron Angas acquired cuttings from the Edelstone site and migrated the precious plantings to his pastures at Hutton Vale. Established just eleven years after the founding of South Australia, the ancient vines in the Hundred Of Moorooroo were planted circa 1836 by the Jacob brothers, after accompanying Colonel William Light on the Seven Special Surveys expedition to populate Adelaide's north. Moorooroo endures as the nation's cardinal parcel of vine, the mother rootstock for many of the Barossa's most distinguished sites. The Ingoldby name has been associated with McLaren Vale agriculture for over a century, however it was not until the late 1960s that Jim Ingoldby put the family name on a label. Since that time, Ingoldby have released a profound succession of award winning wines. Harvests of Chardonnay are pressed off skins, half the juices are fermented in seasoned French oak barrels, treated to lees battonage and malolactic for added complexity. Some batches are matured six months in oak barrel, the balance is vinified and held in fermenters to retain freshness. Components are assessed to determine the optimal balance of bright lifted fruit flavours and leesy oak complexity before assembling into the final wine.
Pale straw in colour. Lovely intense stone fruit characters of nectarine and peach, beautifully integrated with nut and nougat aromas, fresh honey butter legs around the rim of the glass, all supported by well balanced oak. A creamy palate offering lovely fresh characters, zestyness and excellent length. With just the faintest touch of oak, the focus is on clean citrus fruit, with nice texture and length of flavour on the back of the palate.

From 1986, the Ingoldby reds began a stunning run of success at the show level, and the Cabernet Sauvignon has been highly acclaimed to this day.

Ingoldby operates vineyards which have been in the family for generations, with additional fruit provided by long term contract growers. With the the success of Ingoldby Chardonnay taking top Gold trophy at the Royal Queensland Wine Show, they have demonstrated their talents at producing a range of extremely high quality wines against traditional expectations that full flavoured reds are what the region does best. The outstanding fruit driven flavours of the 2004 Chardonnay wowed judges at the Bendigo Bank Royal Queensland Wine Show securing the highest accolade in its class winning Top Gold and 2 further trophies. Proudly crafted in the traditional McLaren Vale style, the 2004 possesses an intensely flavoured fruit palate derived from a long and dry vintage.

The wine simply wowed the judges and impressed all who were fortunate to have access to a sample tasting. Aromas of fig, peach and melon with hints of oak are developed into an elegant yet powerful and fruity palate with a well-balanced, creamy finish.
