Coonawarra cattle graziers since 1906, the Reschke family turned some of their land over to viticulture in the 1980s. Such was the quality of Reschke fruit, that it became an essential inclusion for some of Wynn's most memorable vintages and a number of national icon wines. Reschke now keep the pick of crop for their own label, the most princely harvests of Coonawarra Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz, characterised by their defined regional eloquence and ingratiating palate weight. Kooyong Estate only make limited editions from tiny blocks of vine, a hectare or less, which yield deeply personal wines, highly eloquent of their terroir, aspect and clime. There are the pebbled ironstone soils of Farrago, which create an uncannily Burgundesque style of Chardonnay, redolent of grapefruits, mealy bran and wet flint. The precious half hectare at Faultline articulates the savouryness of seaweed and struck match. The sheltered lee of Haven Block encourages the grapes to bloom with chewy red jube characters. The windswept parcel at Meres infuses wonderfully perfumed rhubarb and ribena notes into a velvetine tannin structure. All are equally.. Venerable vintages from the most precious parcels»

Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot are harvested off old or very old vines, some were established in 1914, rooted into deep alluvial soils, harvested at optimum maturity throughout the cool of night, to a schedule determined by vineyard sampling. Following the crush, vinification is carried out in a collection of old concrete open top fermenters for approximately a week, followed by transfer to a combination of seasoned and new French oak puncheons for two years maturation. Each parcel is kept separate until the final assemblage, whereupon the Elderton team adjust the proportion of components to determine the final Ode to Lorraine.
A very rich dark purple. Elegant aromas of chocolate, berries and licorice are well wrapped in lovely toasty oak. Full bodied with velvety, ripe, refined tannins before a long rich finish. Already exhibiting amazing harmony, power and grace, Ode to Lorraine is fashioned to achieve a velvety silkiness and elegance across the whole flavour profile. A brooding wine with dark flavours framed by refined tannins, finishing long and balanced with a presence of ample, ripe fruit.
