William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. His son planted vines in nearby McLaren Vale and his grandson served a term as winemaker for Hardy Wines at the historic Tintara wineworks. William Maxwell's progeny remain in McLaren Vale, producing the southern hemisphere's most successful brands of Honey Mead, as well as vintages of the most extraordinary value in McLaren Vale Shiraz. Coonawarra cattle graziers since 1906, the Reschke family turned some of their land over to viticulture in the 1980s. Such was the quality of Reschke fruit, that it became an essential inclusion for some of Wynn's most memorable vintages and a number of national icon wines. Reschke now keep the pick of crop for their own label, the most princely harvests of Coonawarra Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz, characterised by their defined regional eloquence and ingratiating palate weight. The fruit of vines, planted to iron red terra rosa soil and nourished by the fertile plenitude from generations of grazing cattle, for every ardent enthusiast of born and bred, baronnial Coonawarra marques... Mount Riley
At the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island, the waters of the Marlborough Sounds meet steep hills rising to the south-west, where the Richmond Ranges are dominated by the distinctive crag of Mount Riley

Inland, the mountains look down on the stony-soiled vineyards of the Wairau Valley. From here, and other famous parts of the Marlborough region, a reputation for outstanding wines has spread around the world. Distinct regional characteristics have been celebrated, since the first plantings in 1973. Mount Riley is the predominant peak in the Richmond Range of mountains that overlooks the Wairau Valley.

A portfolio of vineyards, totaling 252.5 acres of the Wairau Valley and Seventeen Valley areas, are owned and managed by Mount Riley Wines. Each site was chosen carefully, for its unique attributes and ability to produce grapes of outstanding quality.

MOUNT RILEY VINEYARD 50 acres - Established 1996 Planted predominately in Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, the vineyard offers a magnificent view of Mount Riley and the Richmond ranges. The land is a mixture of river stones and sandy loam, lying on two north-facing terraces.

BLINKBONNIE VINEYARD 42 acres - Established 2001 This vineyard is home not only to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc vines, but was purchased as the site of the new Mount Riley winery and cellar door. Situated just south of Blenheim, with a one-kilometre frontage, the 'home' vineyard is easily located by visitors. A nursery for newly grafted vines is also contained within its kilometre-long stretch of land.

WAIHOPAI VINEYARD 23 acres - Established 2002 This new 23 acre vineyard is planted in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot and Riesling vines. The site is extremely stony and perfectly suited to the production of premium quality fruit.

SEVENTEEN VALLEY VINEYARD 34 acres - Established 1996 Five minutes south of Blenheim and away from the Wairau Valley. All of which make it perfect for the production of high quality, intensely flavoured Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec and Chardonnay. The vineyard's grapes form the backbone of the Mount Riley premium wines.
