Some precious old blocks of ancient vine Grenache still remain after a government sponsored program to cull unproductive vineyards during the 1980s. Yielding excruciatingly small harvests of the most characterful fruit, these wizzened old veterans deliver small batch vintages which are evocative of the old world classics from Cotes du Rhone. Moondah Brook can boast an unbroken succession of superb vintages ever since inaugural release, they can lay claim to consistently delivering one of Australia's most popular Verdelho wines. This unique grape was originally planted on the Moondah Brook property near Gin Gin in the 1960s, from much earlier cuttings along the Swan Valley where Verdelho thrives in the warm and sunny climes. Moondah Brook is a contemporary range of varietal wines within the Houghton group, sourcing fruit from vineyards throughout the greater Swan and Frankland River regions. Verdelho is a versatile varietal that bridges the gap between a light, food friendly aromatic wine with something more full bodied. Moondah Brook sets the benchmark, showcasing Verdelho's characteristic flavours and gentle acids, with just the right amount of weight on the palate. Moondah Brook's vineyards yield the finest Verdelho grapes, harvested throughout the coolest hours of morning and night to preserve the vital fruit characters, crushed, inoculated and fermented under strict temperature controls to retain freshness.
Pale straw with tinges of green. A bouquet of lively tropical fruit, guava, pineapple and passionfruit with underlying citrus and hints of gooseberry. Moondah Brook
The original Moondah Brook Estate was established in 1968, a 92 hectare property located at Gingin, north of Perth

The vineyard was established because of its unique climate. Sea breezes in the afternoon and gully winds of an evening assist with the reduction in temperatures at ripening time, allowing the wines to display great varietal character.

Today, Moondah Brook is a range of varietal wines that reflect this philosophy of allowing the varietal character to shine. Sourced from premium vineyards, the wines are a true expression of Western Australian varieties. Moondah Brook Verdelho has long been recognised as a pioneer wine style, supported by Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc varieties.

Moondah Brook unwooded Chardonnay varietal wine, offers a lively and vibrant alternative to the oaked style while the Rose Cabernet is vibrant and alive with raspberry and lavender. The newest addition to the range is a varietal Merlot from Western Australia.

Premium quality and contemporary labelling, the refreshed branding is recognisable by the distinctive brook, which is colour matched with each variety. Moondah Brook wines are fruit driven with spicy, full-flavoured styles that make them perfect food wines.

Moondah Brook's Rob Bowen is one of Australia's more experienced winemakers with more than 30 years in the industry both as a winemaker and consultant. He has worked for some of WA's best-known wineries including Plantagenet Wines, Capel Vale Wines and most recently, Willow Bridge Estate.

Rob also assists in driving the quality and evolution of the well-known Australian icon brands of Houghton, Jack Mann, Moondah Brook and Crofters.
