The mean gravelly soils and invigorating climes of Mount Barker of the Australian southwest, were identified during the 1960s by the world's leading viticulturalists, as a place uncannily similar to the great terroirs and clime of Bordeaux. The pioneering vines of Forest Hill were the first ever planted here, sired from rootstock of ancient Houghton clones, inaugurally vintaged by the illustrious Jack Mann in 1972. The Cabernet and Riesling of Forest Hill were promptly distinguished by multiple trophy victories and praised by gentleman James Halliday as the most remarkable wines to come out of the Australian west. Forest Hill have remained a source of the most profoundly structured, intensely focused, yet softly spoken range of wines. Powerful yet disciplined Cabernet, generously proportioned Malbec, august Chardonnay and mesmerising Riesling, all representing essential drinking and salient value, for every learned west coast gourmande in the.. The Domaine Chandon and Green Point operations are located amongst some of the most superlative Chardonnay vineyards in Yarra Valley. Vines were established to soils made rich after many decades of mixed farming. Fruit is sourced primarily from the cooler, elevated sites of Upper Yarra Valley. Vineyards in this region are renowned for producing Chardonnay with citrus flavours and high natural acidity at moderate sugar levels. Parcels of fruit from the lower reaches of the Valley floor contribute lovely soft stone fruit characters. Grapes are hand picked and vinified in French oak barrels, wild yeast ferments, lees stirring and ten months maturation build layers of texture and complexity.
Pale straw, green hues. The aroma expresses pristine varietal characters of white nectarine, ripe citrus and stone fruit as well as a subtle flavour profile of sweet, exotic spice. The palate is complex, structured and layered showing excellent balance between the expression of vibrant fruit and the secondary characters of roasted spice, soft cheese and toasty characters derived from fermentation, aging and lees stirring in French oak.
