The First Colonists to arrive in South Australia were brought to Kangaroo Island aboard HMS Buffalo in 1836. Sharing the journey was a veteran of the Royal Navy who had served aboard Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory. Frank Potts was an accomplished sailor and carpenter, he built many of the young colony's structures and trading vessels. Six generations later, the Potts family's precious plantings of Malbec have been a key component in many of the nation's most memorable and invaluable vintages for decades. Jack Mann reigns eternal as the greatest winemaker in the history of the Australian west. Jack Mann's son Tony grew up amongst the vineyards of Houghton but took a keener interest in things Cricket. He exelled at both pursuits but is best remembered as the legendary leg spinner Tony Rocket Mann. During his off seasons away from the pitch, Tony would plant parcels of vine alongside his illustruious father Jack and his own young son Robert. The fully grown Robert now makes his own wine, from fruit of the very vines sown by Jack and Tony Mann. Robert learned from his grandfather that great winemaking required a spiritual oneness with nature. The birds and the bees play a.. Whence the west was won»

One of our nation's enduring winemaking dynasties, the Hamiltons planted vines just outside Adelaide in 1837. It's not really such a big secret, all the success hinges on selection of grapes, chosen on the basis of varietal fruit characters and vibrant Marlborough regional expression. Parcels from several vineyards are included, each trained to vertical shoot positioning and planted to naturally inhibiting soil structures, achieving harvests of intense, low yield crops. Various winemaking techniques are employed, each contribution is treated and attenuated individually to create a more complex and dynamic wine. These included the use of both selected and natural yeast strains, a mixture of tank and French oak maturation along with a component of partial malolactic ferments.
Light lemon yellow straw green hues. The nose finds buttery, sweaty oak underlined by tropical and citrus fruits. The rich and satisfying elements of melon and mineral are impeccably integrated with smart oak, gooseberries, grapefruit, banana and apple flavours. The finish is lingering and clean, elegant and immensely satisfying.

Secret Stone

A wine almost as rare as the precious greenstone that inspired its name. Found in the South Island, greenstone is crafted into beautiful carvings that are passed on from one generation to the next. Like the land itself, they are much treasured and from this much treasured land comes the finest parcels of fruit which have been selected for Secret Stone.

The result is the Secret Stone Sauvignon Blanc, a wine fresh, vibrant and elegant. Distinctively Marlborough.

Once received at the winery the fruit is de-stemmed, pressed and chilled to 10-12C before gentle pressing. The resulting juices are cold settled for 48-72 hours and racked in preparation for fermentation. Following fermentation in stainless steel the wine is chilled to 0C prior to racking and selection for the final blend. The primary objective being to protect the fresh vibrant characters of the expressive fruit.
