One of our nation's enduring winemaking dynasties, the Hamiltons planted vines just outside Adelaide in 1837. Established 1908, Redman's Coonawarra are still made by the Redman brothers from fruit grown to the original family parcels. The tradition began 1901 when Bill Redman, at the tender age of fourteen, made the journey to take up an apprenticeship at the John Riddoch wineworks and to labour amongst Coonawarra's founding vineyards. Bill Redman's earliest vintages were sold off to other companies but it was not until 1952 that the Redman family released their own wines under the moniker Rouge Homme. Redman was finally branded under its own label in 1966, it remains one of the most enduring marques in Coonawarra. Enjoyed globally and loved everywhere, Mateus is Portugal's most famous export, appreciated around the world for its fresh, grapey taste. Vinified through the Bica aberta method, a long fermentation under controlled temperatures, a selection of unique Iberian varietal grapes, Rufete and Tinta Barroca, Baga and Bastardo, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, are assembled according to the Mateus traditions and guarded blending protocals. Processed to the traditional white wine method, without skins, at 16C. Fining is followed by cold stabilisation, filtration and an early bottling. Preferably to be enjoyed within two years after vintage to enjoy it's lively and enjoyable spritzy qualities. Alcohol 11.0%
Perfection in pink. Fresh and seductive with fine and intense bouquet, both fruity and dry, scents of currants and vanilla, cranberry and ginger. A splendiferous palate that's full of fresh berries, grape jelly, citrus and red licorice characters. A well balanced and tempting wine, brilliantly complemented by a soft and slightly fizzy finish. The first choice for aperitif, match Mateus with anything that's coloured pink.
