Hurtle Walker first picked grapes as a ten year old on the celebrious Magill property in 1900. Apprenticed to the legenderies Monsieur Duray and Leon Mazure, Walker was placed in charge of sparkling wine production for the historic Auldana Cellars at the ripe old age of 21. He saw service as a soldier in World War I and made great wine until 1975. Hurtle Walker's grandson continues the family tradition, partnering with Jimmy Watson winner David O'Leary to acquire the most auspicious Clare Valley vineyards and establish one of the nation's leading marques. The family owned and operated Currency Creek estate is situated 80kms south of Adelaide in the Currency Creek winegrowing region adjacent to Southern Ocean and Lake Alexandrina

The Currency Creek region is maritime in character and produces long dry summers where the mean growing rainfall is less than 6 inches (155mm) and the mean January temperature is 65°F (18.5°C). These conditions, matched with the ancient coastal soils, create the ideal conditions for prolonged ripening and consistent grape yields producing wines with outstanding varietal definition and lift.
