Shiraz Padthaway South Australia
Crafted by a rising star of the Padthaway region, recipients South Australian Cabernet Of Year Trophy and runner-up South Australian Wine Of Year. Five generations of viticulture make Browns one of the few family owned labels producing conspicuous local Shiraz. Their commitment has not gone unnoticed by the world's industry press, Decanter has identified Browns as one of the 21 Hottest Wineries to Watch. To create nothing but the best, Browns have employed the peerless expertise of the stellar O'Leary Walker winemaking team.
The Browns have two vineyard sites in the heart of Padthaway. The original vineyard was established in 1970 at Keppoch, predominately planted on the famed Terra rossa soils, as well as some sandy loams over limestone, free draining and fertile. In 1997 the estate's Padthaway Valley Vineyard was developed, a few kilometres to the north of the existing Keppoch property. Supplementary rainfall is sourced from aquifers of the artesian basin which lie beneath Limestone Coast, the vines are nurtured by a very high quality of ground water. Matured in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads for up to two years.
Brick red, purple hue. A big, generous, complex earthy bouquet, magnificent fragrances, floral, chewy and spiced, blackberry, hints of pepper and anise over subtle oak. The palate features rich sweet varietal Shiraz flavours of blackberry and dark plum, balanced by good acidity and fine long tannins. Seamless balance and ripe, mouthfilling berry characters, a splendid match to wild boar or bay leaf & olive provençale styled rabbit.
