William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. His son planted vines in nearby McLaren Vale and his grandson served a term as winemaker for Hardy Wines at the historic Tintara wineworks. William Maxwell's progeny remain in McLaren Vale, producing the southern hemisphere's most successful brands of Honey Mead, as well as vintages of the most extraordinary value in McLaren Vale Shiraz. But what does Maxwell taste like? Gentleman James Halliday describes Maxwell as robust, picking the eyes out of.. Made of mature vine mclaren vale »
Planted to a steep north facing slope, under the shades of an ancient sawmill, very near the estuaries Mersey and Don, the measured yields of an elite little vineyard are hand picked for vinification by the illustrious Josef Chromy wineworks at Relbia. Highly specialised with the effusive sparkling styles and aromatic whites, winners Winestate Alternative Varietal of Year, the barriques of Barringwood are percolating parcels of Pinot Noir, which are setting a benchmark for the artisanal boutique estates of Devonport and greater Launceston. There are but two winemakers who can lay claim to a staggering four Jimmy Watson Trophy victories. Wolf Blass was the man behind the label. John Glaetzer was the man behind Wolf Blass. While working for Wolf, Glaetzer was moonlighting on his own brand, applying the same extravagance of technique to the pick of Langhorne Creek fruit. Perfection in the form of black bramble fruit, muscular yet affable tannins, all framed by the luxury of ebony oak. Aspirants of the great Black Blass Label fables of 1974, 1975 and 1976, are privately advised to avail themselves of John's Blend, Cabernet or Shiraz. Crafted from the same parcels, in the same way, by the same hands,.. Timeless mystique of langhorne creek»
Greg Melick embarked on the prodigal road to gambling and booze as a mere teenager, after winning the daily double at Werribee and spending the lot on good red wine. He ultimately returned to the straight and narrow, achieving the rank of ADF Major General, Senior Law Counsel, Master Wine Judge and Officer of Australia AO. Melick now grows his own, he remains besotted with les grands vignobles de Bourgogne, the illustrious Pinot Noir of Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune. There are few places in the world, more akin to the 1er Grand Cru style of Pinot Noir, than the temperate pastures along Tasmania's River Derwent. It was here in 2002, amongst the woodland.. Vinified from choice parcels of fruit, picked off a small block of Chardonnay vines on the Vasse Felix Karridale property, only slightly south of Margaret River. This unusual section of Chardonnay stands out for its unique structure and flavour profile, ideally suited to the Blanc de Blancs style. Only a tiny volume was made. Chardonnay grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed, the majority of parts are sent to oak for a course of rich barrel ferments. Upon completion, batches are assembled and filled to bottle for a secondary vinification in true Methode traditionelle. Two years of bottle ageing and remuage on yeast lees contact is followed by disgorgement and liqueur dosage.
Refined effervescence, golden hues. Lemon sorbet bouquet, lanolin, lavendar and mozzarella notes. A luscious, fresh entrance to the palate, bursting with voluminous yet refined creamy mousse. Delicate and pure with crunchy green apple characters and a squeeze of lemon before a lavendar brulée finish. The dry, chalky, mineral edge is balanced by subtle creamy textures and judicious measure of dosage liqueur.
