Muscat Rutherglen Victoria
The Stanton & Killeen parcels are just three kilometres due west of Rutherglen, on picturesque, gently undulating pastorals. Thirty hectares of the best well drained soils are planted to vine, a mix of gravel ridges and red loam slopes, under which lie auspicious porous clays. It is on these latter soils that the Classic Muscat is grown. Deep tawny scarlet. Overwhelming bouquet, rancion and nuts, jaffas and parched fruit. The palate is luscious and immediate, a rush of butter, gumnuts and honeyed citrus, fruit bread and green tea. An ebbing and flowing counterpoint between semi-dried out grapes and musty varietal sweetness, unctuous with coffee, strong cheese, fruitcakes and walnut.
