William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. Beechworth has become an important part of the Brokenwood operations, Pinot Gris often represents the pick of the local crop. Parcels harvested off Indigo Vineyard are crushed, drained and chilled for a term of term of cold soak, as the juices are transported back to the Brokenwood wineworks in Pokolbin. Batches are filled to fermenters, a smaller parcel is treated to oak barrel for a course of vinification, upon completion, components are racked for assemblage into the finished wine.
Light straw hues. Lifted pear and floral aromas, the walnut and citrus rind spice, so highly eloquent of Pinot Gris. Exquisite balance to the palate without any oiliness, layered with musk fruit flavours and natural richness of textural phenolic grip.
